RAYMEDICA HIRES NEW CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER
Minneapolis, MN: May 2, 2005 - Raymedica Inc., a medical device developer
and manufacturer, announced that Fred Kornahrens joins Raymedica in
the newly created position of Chief Operating Officer.
“Raymedica has currently refocused by continuing to improve on
the existing PDN® technology, the world’s first nucleus replacement
device, while also creating a comprehensive nucleus replacement system”,
said John J. Viscogliosi, Chairmen and CEO of Raymedica. “Fred
is a seasoned leader that brings over sixteen years of solid medical
device experience to Raymedica including start-up ventures, with over
ten of these years consisting of executive management in medical devices.”
Fred most recently served as a member of the Executive Staff at Zimmer
Spine as Vice President, Global Product Development where he played
a vital role in the development, approval and market introduction of
several spine products. Fred generated & managed multimillion-dollar
budgets leading a global organization of over 40 Product Development,
Clinical and Regulatory personnel. Fred also provided key leadership
for the global integration of Zimmer Spine Product Development. Prior
to joining Zimmer Spine, he served as the Vice President, R&D/Clinical
at IntraTherapeutics, Inc., a cardiovascular start-up that was acquired
by Sulzer Medica. Under Fred’s leadership, the company launched
several Class II & Class III products. He was also instrumental
in the sale of ITI during Sulzer Medica’s divestiture of its cardiovascular
business units in 2002.

John Viscogliosi continued by saying, “Prior to his accomplished
medical device career, Fred served for seven years in the Air Force
as a B-52 Pilot and Commander. Fred completed his MBA at Renssselaer
Polytechnic Institute and received his Bachelor of Science, Engineering
from the United States Air Force Academy. He is also a named co-inventor
on several patents.”
